Hope Goldie’s passion for wine was sparked early in life, in the laundry room of her childhood home, where she learned the ins and outs of fermentation making Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Carignan alongside her chemist father. After exploring a few different paths, Hope eventually returned to her first love, deepening a strong foundation in microbiology, chemistry, sensory evaluation, and enology as a graduate student at the University of California, Davis. Drawn to Napa Valley, the California home of her favored Bordeaux, she soon honed her expertise at respected estates, including Opus One and Stags' Leap Winery, joining the Darioush family in 2005 to work closely with Founding Winemaker Steve Devitt.
Today, Hope is crafting a legacy that will distinguish the Darioush experience for years to come. Since the 2018 vintage, Hope has overseen all winemaking operations, and as Vice President of Winemaking she relishes the opportunity to shape our wines in a thousand little ways every day. From vineyard to crush pad to laboratory to cellar, she approaches each new challenge with logical pragmatism and an eagerness to learn. As a farming-first winemaker, Hope firmly believes that wine is made in the vineyard, and ensures the consistency of our wines’ exceptional character with a soil-driven, vineyard-specific approach.
